About Me

I am a student who is currently enrolled on the Northcoders Bootcamp, I count honesty, respect and environmentalism amongst my key values. Having spent the first half of the course learning all about the fundamentals of JavaScript and its use in the back-end I hope to put this into practice on a number of personal projects that I have in mind.

If I had to pick a favourite part of the course so far I’d have to choose the Pokemon sprint in particular. I had the opportunity to create a Pokemon game designed for the command line, practising with key concepts such as Object Oriented Programming and inheritance.

Prior to applying for a place on the Northcoders Bootcamp in late 2020 I was an experienced Room Leader in a day nursery. A loud and hectic environment, nevertheless enabled me to development efficient leadership and communication skills; both with fellow practitioners and also the (sometimes stubborn) children. I graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2017 with a First Class Bachelors Degree in Childhood Studies after changing course from Chemistry in 2014.
Although possessing very little musical skill myself, I am very passionate about music and spend a lot of my own time going to gigs, and enjoying the varied musical offerings that Manchester has to offer.

Projects

Choose Your Own Pokemon Adventure

Technologies Used: JavaScript, JQuery (and soon HTML and CSS)

This started off as a two day sprint on the Northcoders Bootcamp intended to teach Object Oriented Programming. However further down the line I decided to expand it into a Choose Your Own Adventure style game. In order to do this I have been teaching myself some basic JQuery. Development is slow as most of my time is spent focusing on the course but the game will be hosted in the near future. For the time being the GitHub repository can be found here with instructions on how to install and play the command line game.

News Api

Technologies Used: Node.js, JavaScript, Express, PSQL, Knex

This API was created as the backend project at Northcoders. I found it really beneficial as it helped build my understanding of the backend and how Node could be used on the backend. I also further built on my understanding of TDD as it introduced testing on the backend. Please follow this link for the API and the GitHub repository can be found here.

This Portfolio

Technologies Used: Bootstrap, HTML and CSS

My portfolio page itself is a project that I've spent a lot of time on. I started it prior to the Northcoders bootcamp with some very rudimentary HTML and CSS knowledge and during careers week I took the time to familiarise myself with Bootstrap in order to format and style the page in the way I had envisioned. Although I don't have much skill in design myself I was able to build on the foundations provided by Bootstrap and personalise it to create something that I am proud of. For anyone interested you can see my code here.
